What is a CNAM?
Caller Name (CNAM) is a component of Caller ID. It refers to the caller ID name that is displayed on an incoming phone call. When Bandwidth delivers an inbound phone call, our customers can use an API function called ‘CNAM Lookup’ to input the phone number, and query the caller ID.
Who owns the CNAM database?
The CNAM databases are independent databases operated by LECs and other private companies. The called party’s carrier has the responsibility to perform the CNAM lookup, and it is possible that lookups for the same telephone number from different locations return different name information.
